Are you Ready to Be Your Own Boss
We have all dreamed of it, the day where we walk into the office of our current boss and tell him everything he and the company have done wrong and how we are going to do it so much better. Well when that day comes, you need to make sure you are ready to be the person sitting behind the desk- the boss.
While owning your own business is one of the most rewarding things a person can do, it is definitely not for everyone. A business comes with its own set of unique challenges that as an employee most people don’t realize, because form the outside looking in we often only see the things that our boss has and does, not what it took to get there. The following are a few things to ponder before you take the big leap.
• Are you okay with not having a paycheck for weeks, months, or even years?
• Are you okay with spending countless hours pursuing your dream only to realize that the only person who believes in that dream may be you?
• Are you okay with not having evenings, weekends, and vacations to do with as you please?
• Are you willing to put it all on the line, financially and emotionally, as you may be asked to do to make your business successful?
• Are you ready to fight your current employer because he thinks you stole company clients and information, and is willing to go to any length necessary to make sure you fail?
• Is your spouse, significant other and family okay with all of the above, because becoming your own boss impacts all of them?
Take the time to sit down and really think about a few of the questions above. If your risk tolerance does not allow you to answer yes to these questions then you need to decide if being in business for yourself is really the right choice. While many of these questions pose a worst case scenario, if just one of them happens, are you going to be able to deal with it?
